I’d like to volunteer an idea…

November 29th, 2012 by CrispRoot

The Holiday Season is here.  The Thanksgiving turkey leftovers, aka the gift that keeps on giving, are being more and more creatively utilized.  It’s time for Holiday parties, gift giving, seeing old friends… and as I was recently reminded, a lot more. (more…)

The politics of politics

September 7th, 2012 by CrispRoot

The Republican National Convention was last week, and the Democratic National Convention just wrapped up.  That can only mean one thing: what has been called the political silly season is upon us. (more…)

We can all be Olympians in spirit!

August 2nd, 2012 by CrispRoot

Exercise and be healthy.  You hear that a lot these days, and for good reason.  But, for now, let’s not focus on what we can do for ourselves, but on those who represent the highest levels of what exercise and eating right can do for you – the athletes of the 2012 Summer Olympics. (more…)

The National Parks are an affordable source of enjoyment… so go already!

July 19th, 2012 by CrispRoot

I saw a stat the other day that stated the number of overnight stays in National Parks is declining.  This brings out mixed emotions.  On one hand, that’s kind of sad.  On the other, if crowds are down, what a great time to pack up and visit one… (more…)

Volunteering a little information…

April 12th, 2012 by CrispRoot

Did you know that April is National Volunteer Month?  I didn’t either.

So just what is National Volunteer Month?  A month to honor all those who volunteer their time and effort to a good cause?  Well, that’s not a bad idea, and I’m sure it could be worked in there somehow… but that’s not really what it’s all about. (more…)

Rainy day brain drain, a.k.a. the strange results of letting your mind wander unattended

February 16th, 2012 by CrispRoot

It’s raining, it’s pouring… well, not quite pouring, but it is raining and it is cold out – so rather than run the errands I had assigned myself, I find myself sitting in my nice warm office thinking deep (and not so deep) thoughts.

This has forced me into a conclusion (besides acknowledging that I am being a weather wimp):  It’s amazing the places the human mind will wander when you’re not using it for other, more productive purposes…  places like: (more…)

With This Smart Phone, The Shoe May Be On The Other Foot

January 19th, 2012 by CrispRoot

January 5th, 2012 by CrispRoot

The holidays and all the traditions they bring are over… the days are getting longer – fractionally, maybe, but longer nonetheless.  Suddenly, as happens every year, a new year is upon us.  This provides a time both to look back and look ahead, and to fill you head with assorted random thoughts such as… (more…)

The Solstice Is Coming, The Solstice Is Coming… But That Doesn’t Mean I Have To Like It!

December 15th, 2011 by CrispRoot

OK, going to bed when it’s dark – that works for me, and has since I was a kid.  Getting up in the dark?  I don’t care for it, but OK… I’ll deal with it for a few months out of the year.  But having to drive home from work in the dark, on the same day I got up in the dark?  Now, that just ain’t right. “Live To Ride, Ride To Live”… A Look At An American Classic

December 1st, 2011 by CrispRoot

I’ve experienced it first hand – the looks you get when you cruise down a street, leather jacket in place, chrome shining in the sun, pipes emitting that classic rumble… For that matter, you can see it in the way people will stop or backtrack in their trek across a parking lot, just to take an extra, often longing look at the mystical beast parked before them. You can say what you will about their riders – bikers do come in all shapes, sizes, genders, temperaments, and levels of cleanliness… but there is something magical about a Harley that touches the American soul. Nature’s Own Quiet Riot… Of Color!

October 13th, 2011 by CrispRoot

What do you think of when you see of hear the words, “Fall Color”?

Do you think of it means one last chance to get a tan before it gets too chilly to hit the beach? How about the wearing your favorite team’s football jersey, and proudly displaying the teams colors?  Or, maybe you think it refers to the fact that sunlight seems just a little more golden as the calendar marches on towards Halloween and Thanksgiving? (more…)

Cultural Roots, Not Cassava Roots… CrispRoot Takes You On A Quick Trip To Indonesia

July 27th, 2011 by CrispRoot

Fun and fascinating, with a deep sense of history… Indonesia is not just about the cassava root, not by a long shot – and being as every CrispRoot chip is made from that Indonesian food staple, that’s a big thing for us to admit! But admit it we most gladly do, and to prove it we thought we’d put up a list of some of our favorite parts of Indonesia, in case you ever get a chance to check out that very cool part of the planet we all share.

Halo, Sports Fans – it’s that wonderful time of year again!

June 16th, 2011 by CrispRoot

US Baseball Fans - Sports EventsWow.  What a great time to be a sports fan.
First off, how about the NBA Finals that just wrapped up?  The Heat thought it was a done deal when they went up two games to one, in fact, so did a lot of the “experts” on all the sports channels.  But, what came next was like what Gomer Pyle used to always say to Sgt. Carter…  Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!  So, where’d you sit on this one – bummed that the Heat couldn’t (more…)
